HMTI UGM berdiri sekitar bulan Juni tahun 2000. HMTI UGM pada mulanya merupakan Badan Semi Otonom (BSO) dibawah Keluarga Mahasiswa Teknik Mesin (KMTM) UGM. Hingga pada tahun 2003, kedudukan HMTI telah sejajar dengan KMTM sebagai keluarga/himpunan mahasiswa.
IGNITE (Industrial Global Network for Innovation and Technology) is a major event organized by the Industrial Engineering Students' Association (HMTI) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). It serves as a platform for students across Southeast Asia to address contemporary global challenges. Through the White-Paper Competition and the Product Design and Ergonomics Competition, IGNITE tackles pressing issues within ASEAN countries using analytical studies and the development of globally competitive product designs.
IEC is a collaborative learning platform where students can connect, exchange ideas, grow, and inspire one another to unlock their full potential. It aims to shape high-skill achievers ready to become catalysts for innovation and change within their communities.
